Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority West Los Angeles Transportation Center
Objective: Provide community outreach and consensus building in the surrounding area where the MTA has proposed to build a new, transportation center in order to house, clean, and maintain up to 175 clean-fuel, compressed natural gas (CNG) buses that will provide service for the central and west regions of Los Angeles .
Implementation: Voices, Inc. created a consensus building, community outreach plan that engaged the local community to participate in the decision making process in the following manner:
- Strategic planning to determine what type of outreach program should be implemented that would effectively engage the community
- Designing and developing a Stakeholder database, that included residents, businesses, elected officials, key leaders, community- and faith-based organizations, civic, social, and institutional organizations.
- Creating a methodology that included engaging the community through a multi-tier approach that included informal roundtable group presentation and one-to-one meetings
- Preparing for the Scoping Meeting and Public Hearing as mandated by the EIR process
- Constructing a graphics board of the site, surrounding project area, and areas housing similar facilities and aerial photos of the site
- Developing a project branding theme used on all collateral materials for project identity.
- Organizing and arranging community meetings with business owners, residents, elected officials, and community-based organizations
- Compiling comparative analysis real estate values in areas with similar facilities with visual aids
- Designing and producing a Community Fact Sheet and Community Event Newsletter.
