Los Angeles County Office of Women's Health - Cervical Cancer Prevention and Education Initiative (CCPEI)

Objective: To encourage low income, uninsured, African American women to schedule appointments for the testing of Cervical Cancer through a hotline due to the disproportionate nature in which the disease affects minority groups in the Los Angeles area.

Implementation: Voices, Inc. designed a culturally sensitive marketing and outreach plan related to the availability of preventative health care services incorporating the following:

  • Development of Communication Outreach Plan and Strategies
  • Informational booth and seminars
  • Participation in community parades and events
  • Cinematic billboards
  • Outdoor billboards
  • Narrow casting
  • Television and Radio spots
  • Developed a partnership and collaboration with relevant organizations, service providers, and community and faith based organizations for effective dissemination of information and collateral materials

Results: Due to the efforts of Voices, Inc. the number of African American women to schedule an appointment through the hotline, rose from 3% to 15.4% between January and June of 2003.
